While Cave 1 is not overall necessary to explore in order to complete the game, it contains several valuable resources for the player's use, as well as several story-related items. There are also two paths into Cave 1 from within other caves: Cave 1 connects to Cave 9 - Ledge Cave through a long passageway and a breakable wall, while Cave 3 - Wet Cave blends with the northern portion of Cave 1, separated by a rope. The walking entrance is located to the east the Pond Camp, it's presence indicated by the mutilated bodies of five passengers close by, while the climbing entrance is located between the Cave 2 - Hanging Cave climbing entrance and the Fertile Lands. One is located within the sinkhole, while two are located further south to the sinkhole. There are three outside entrances, two walking and one climbing. It contains two mutants, both Armsies, and half a dozen cannibals, though the northern portion of the cave also contains a group of cannibals and a few babies. Cave 1 - Dead Cave is one of several caves that make up the Peninsula's expansive cave system.
